Find My Mac Check
This check identifies if “Find My Mac” has been enabled for a specific device.
Check Description: This is a simple call similar to Find My iPhone (FMiP). If “Find My Mac” is turned on, it greatly reduces the reuse options for the device. Devices with a setting of “ON” are typically sold to be taken apart and harvested for spare parts as reactivation is difficult in most markets.
Why It Matters: Understanding the Find My Mac (FMM) status is critical for resale, reuse, and recycling. If FMM is enabled and the iCloud account owner can't be contacted to turn it off, the device becomes permanently locked. This often means the device must be dismantled and scrapped for parts, significantly reducing its value.
When to Use: Identifying this status early helps businesses prevent inventory losses and avoid investing in non-recoverable devices.
