Understanding "Carrier" and "SimLock"

What is the difference between Apple and Android when it comes to our 'carrier' field, and our 'SimLock' field?

PrologMobile provides a 'Carrier' field for most OEMs, from Apple to Samsung, Motorola, Google and more. PrologMobile only provides 'SimLock' for Apple phones.

Our Apple OEM call returns both SimLock and Carrier fields. These fields are provided in real time and will update if the SimLock status or Carrier changes. For example, if the device shows:

Make: Apple
Model: iPhone 12 Pro
SimLock: Locked
Carrier: AT&T

then that means the device is currently SimLocked to AT&T.
For Android devices (Samsung, Google, LG, Motorola), there is no real-time SimLock status check. The Carrier returned in our Android OEM calls reflects the carrier at the device’s build state—that is, the network for which the device was originally configured and sold, or “Unlocked” if it was sold through a Samsung direct channel.

For example, if the device shows:

Make: Samsung
Model: Galaxy S25 Ultra 5G
Carrier: AT&T

That means this Samsung Galaxy phone was originally locked to AT&T, which may or may not still be true, and cannot be determined by PrologMobile.
